For the past several years I have led an adult Bible study at my parish, St. Charles Borromeo. We are in chapter nine of the book of Acts. I invite you to join us, if you live in the Tacoma, WA area. Or follow along online and work through the studies on your own. I will post a new study every week or so.
Start at chapter one, and catch up as you are able. We'll be in Acts for quite some time, I suspect.
Verses 1-3This follows just after the Jerusalem council’s decision
about circumcision. What mightbe
happening here, and why?Consider verse
1 in your answer, along with 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 and Acts
Verses 6-15Does the Holy Spirit still work like this?Has He ever in your life or the lives of
those you know? Tell us about it.
verses 16-18Why was Paul annoyed?Consider Psalm 50:16. But what about Phil 1:12-20? Now go back to verse 17.
Note the literal translation of the article ‘the’ should be translated ‘a’. What is significant, then, about what she was saying?
Application?Now see verses 22-31.
Verses 22-31What do you think about Paul’s and Silas’ attitude in this
Verse 25Do you think others are listening to us, and watching us?
What do you think of that responsibility? Consider psalm 69:(7)6.
Verse 30If someone were to approach you with that same question,
how would you answer? Spend some time thinking about that. It may happen sooner
than you might anticipate.
Verse 32-34And the family were all baptized. Note the order: Hearing the message,
believing the message, baptized after faith (adults) and children (presumably
in the household) after the faith of the parents. What ritual in the OT does that remind you
of? Now consider Romans 2:25-29.
Verses 35-40To what did Paul appeal to get the magistrates to come to
them?Application? Why do you think they
then went to Lydia’s house?
